Add storage space for users

Options for adding Google Drive storage space

Editions supported: Google Drive storage licenses are only available to Google Apps for Business customers.

By default, each user with a Google Apps account has 5 GB of storage available for uploaded Google Drive files. If users need additional storage space, there are two options for increasing their quota:

A user can have only one storage license of each type. To change the amount of storage space for a user, remove the user's current license and assign a larger or smaller license.

The total space available to a user is the sum of the Google Drive storage licenses assigned to the user and any individual storage. The amount of storage space available to a user, and how much of the space the user has used, appears in the Storage quota column of the user list on the Organization & users tab.

A few notes regarding the additional storage:

  • Extra storage granted with a business Google Drive storage license is available for Google Drive only; extra individual storage that users purchase for themselves is available for Google Drive and Picasa Web Albums.

  • Standard Google Apps customers can increase their Gmail storage by becoming Google Apps for Business users; unlike for users with consumer Google accounts, purchasing additional storage does not increase your Gmail quota. (Tips for avoiding Gmail storage limits)
